10 Comic Characters You Totally Forgot Are Already In The Marvel Cinematic Universe

10. Man-Thing

Who? Dr. Theodore Sallis was introduced back in 1971 as a biochemist working in the Everglades to recreate the serum that gave rise to Captain America. He was betrayed by AIM and his own wife, Ellen Brandt - who he scarred when fleeing - and used the last remaining sample of his serum on himself, becoming the monstrous Man-Thing and eventually going on to become the guardian of the Nexus of All Realities. In the MCU: Man-Thing has been teased for several years now across different projects within the franchise. First, Brandt appeared - scars and all - in Iron Man 3 as the Extremis soldier Tony Stark killed by electrocution. Then, the Nexus of All Realities was referenced on Erik Selvig's chalkboard in Thor: The Dark World. Lastly, in the wake of S.H.I.E.L.D.'s downfall and files being made public, Maria Hill explicitly name-dropped the character while wondering who or what he was in the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. episode "Nothing Personal." Why You Forgot: If one wasn't in the know about the character, who's far and away the most recognizable on this list, it'd be all too easy to overlook the identity of Ellen Brandt and the relevance of her scars, and far easier to miss out on the Nexus reference. And if you don't watch Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., then you've definitely missed out on the confirmation of the his existence within the MCU, though, hopefully, one day he'll actually show up to pay off all the buildup.
