10 Completely Insane Ways Film Actors Scored Famous Parts
5. Rupert Grint - Harry Potter
It became one of the biggest cinema franchises ever to sweep the globe, but two of the three big Harry Potter stars had never acted in anything other than school plays. After author J. K. Rowling insisted the major three parts went to English actors, a nationwide hunt began.
Daniel Radcliffe had already appeared on television, and Emma Watson was found via a well-connected drama teacher. However, Rupert Grint only heard about the casting via Newsround.
At eleven years old he was already a fan of the books and decided that he'd make a good Ron Weasley, thanks in part to his ginger hair. Rather than asking for an audition or writing a letter like Madonna though, Grint filmed himself rapping about why he should get the part. The casting directors were impressed, and amazingly, gave him an audition.
It sounds like an audacious plan, especially considering the first line was "Hello there, my name's Rupert Grint: I hope you like this and don't think I stink." Kanye West really hasn't got anything to worry about.
