10 Completely Insane Ways Film Actors Scored Famous Parts
4. Eddie Redmayne - Les Miserables
"I wanted to be Gavroche, the little urchin." Eddie Redmayne claimed, when asked about seeing Les Miserables when he was 7. "I still want to be Gavroche."
Laurence Olivier Award-winning Redmayne, a former classmate of Prince William, landed his Les Mis role in similar fashion to Rupert Grint, if Grint's methods had been given a Hollywood makeover.
Redmayne was in North Carolina when one night, he found himself doing karaoke with Kick-Ass star Chloe Grace Moretz round Blake Lively's house. The pair encouraged him to audition for a part, so he filmed himself singing 'Empty Chairs at Empty Tables' on his iPhone.
After choosing between three or four different versions that he'd recorded, he sent the best one to his agent, which he claims, "still wasn't that great". After it was forwarded on to producer Eric Fellner, meetings were set up between casting directors and Redmayne; he eventually secured the role of Marius Pontmercy and the rest is history.
