10 Completely Original Movies To Look Out For In 2019

3. Gemini Man

Though they share a name, Gemini Man is not based on the 1976 TV show, which followed a secret agent with invisibility powers. Instead, this Will Smith-starring movie will feature the actor as Henry Brogen, an elite assassin who is forced to face a younger, fitter and deadlier clone of himself.

Early on in the film's production, the idea of having two different actors play old and young Brogen was discussed (think Looper, wherein Bruce Willis and Joseph Gordon-Levitt played the same character at different points in time), but thankfully, that idea was shelved. Now, Smith will be playing both parts, with the production utilising de-aging technology - as seen in Captain America: Civil War, with young Tony Stark - to reduce the actor's age.

Smith hasn't exactly had a stellar couple of years, but we all know he's capable of both a strong dramatic performance and a fun, lively, action movie one too. Gemini Man will call on both these talents: director Ang Lee is known for his sophisticated character work, and the concept of an assassin-versus-assassin will require a lot of quippy humour and physicality from the actor.

If we get Smith in Bad Boys, Independence Day or even Men In Black mode, Gemini Man could be an absolutely knockout blockbuster experience.

Danny has been with WhatCulture for almost nine years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. He has been writing and video editing for 10+ years, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers and uploading them to YouTube (they're admittedly a bit rusty by today's standards). If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order or to tell you about the making of 1988's Remembrance of the Daleks, Danny is the person to ask.
