10 Controversial Movie Scenes That Were Cut Before Release
8. The Dentist - Windtalkers
Windtalkers is an all but forgotten war movie starring Nic Cage, where he plays a marine charged with protecting an Indian code talker. His ultimate mission is to protect the code, so if it looks like his partner is going to be captured he has orders to kill him.
The studio submitted the original script to the military in hopes of getting access to a range of gear like tanks and antique weapons. However, in order to get this gear, the script had to satisfy certain demands, meaning the marines couldn’t be portrayed in a negative light. This meant a character dubbed “The Dentist” had to be removed entirely. This marine would loot the battlefield following a fight, prying gold teeth out of the mouths of dead enemies.
The marines objected to this “ghoulish” activity, so out came the scene. They also cut another scene where Cage’s character roasts a surrendering Japanese soldier with a flamethrower, since he’d be committing a war crime.
