10 Controversial Movie Scenes That Were Cut Before Release
7. Khan's Infant Son - Star Trek II: Wrath Of Khan
The Wrath Of Khan is a textbook example of how to make a great sequel, and there’s a reason it’s considered the best entry in the series. It has a great villain, an emotional story, a compelling arc for the main characters and cool sci-fi elements like the Kobayashi Maru test and the Genesis Device.
It’s an embarrassment of riches, though the studio decided to quietly snip one major subplot. The reason Khan is intent on wrathing is because he and his people were stranded by the Enterprise crew, and he lost his wife during this time. In the first cut, we realise he has an infant son with him, who is seen in an early scene and was suppose to reappear at the end.
This subplot was meant to mirror Kirk meeting his own son, and we see Khan won’t be winning Father Of The Year when he activates the Genesis device, killing himself and his child. Paramount felt killing a child was a step too far, and this obscure piece of Trekkie lore is still rarely discussed.
