10 Controversial Movie Scenes That Were Cut Before Release

6. The Twin Towers Ending - Men In Black II

Gangster Squad Sean Penn
Columbia Pictures

Men In Black II was a major step backwards from the fun original, with Will Smith at maximum sass and Tommy Lee Jones displaying all the enthusiasm of a man queuing at the post office. The film is nothing if not brisk, though, barely clocking in at eighty-five minutes, which makes it seem like a short film compared to modern blockbusters.

Part of the reason for this short runtime is that the original ending had to be scrapped, as it took place at the World Trade Centre. The towers were allegedly meant to open up and reveal spaceships underneath, and an SFX heavy showdown would then take place. Filming on this scene was completed before 9/11 but in light of the attacks it was wisely scrapped before the effects work was finished.

The ending was rewritten to include the Statue of Liberty instead, and the first ending has understandably never been released.

Handsome. Charismatic. Intelligent. Noble. Witty. I'm none of these things, but I'm a half decent writer, I guess.
