10 Controversial Movie Scenes That Were Cut Before Release

5. Boom Boom Strippers - Super Mario Bros.

Super Mario Bros was the first video game movie and set the tone for what was to come. Instead of being a breezy adventure for children it was a dark, tonally confused adventure that looked like a Blade Runner rip-off.

The film had multiple directors and rewrites, which explains the conflicting tones. The original directors were reportedly horrible to work with, frequently arguing with the cast, crew and producers. They weren’t fond of the game either and wanted to turn the film into something more adult. The film is dark enough the way it is, but the directors also shot footage of strippers and scantily clad extras for the scene taking place in the Boom Boom Bar.

Naturally enough neither the studio nor Nintendo thought this was a good idea; the directors were eventually fired and offending material taken out of the released version.

Handsome. Charismatic. Intelligent. Noble. Witty. I'm none of these things, but I'm a half decent writer, I guess.
