10 Controversial Movie Scenes That Were Cut Before Release

4. Extended Crew Log Sequence - Event Horizon

Event Horizon was a financial bomb upon release, but has since grown to become a beloved cult gem. This eerie chiller has a crew coming across a spaceship that went missing in a black hole years before, and they find hell has literally come back with it.

The film is fairly gory as it is, but a workprint copy screened for the studio nearly had executives reaching for the barf bags. It contained extended scenes of violence and mutilation, and even the director admits it was way too much. Paramount demanded excessive cuts, with a focus on the disturbing crew log scene.

The uncensored version of this sequence was almost a snuff film, with the original crew attacking, torturing and raping each other to death. It’s still intense in the final cut, but it was severely trimmed to make it tolerable for audiences. The footage for this scene has since been lost, meaning it will probably never be restored.
