3. Destroy The Mothership / Mother To Destroy Them All
Marvel StudiosAll too often in movies, the simply way to defeat every single villain is to destroy the one behind them all - whether it be a mechanical object like a mothership or a biological organism like a queen-esque mother creature. The Avengers movie is a prime example of this. At no point in the movie were the Chitauri soldiers ever depicted as being cybernetic or part of a hive mind - and while the giant "space whales" appeared to have some mechanical parts, they were never mentioned as being part of a hive mind either. And yet, when Tony Stark redirected a nuclear missile through Loki's portal and it struck the Chitauri mothership, the ship's destruction caused every single Chitauri unit on Earth to collapse lifelessly to the floor. Well, that wrapped that up nice and conveniently (a bit like in Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace when Anakin Skywalker destroyed the droid control ship from within, deactivating the droid army). And then you look at movies like The Faculty, whereby a race of tiny alien parasites invaded Earth and attached themselves to humans, essentially possessing them in the process. These were biological entities with minds of their own - and yet killing the one dubbed the queen alien made all of the separate little creatures die too, making for a nice tidy ending to the movie (something that also happened in Slither, for example).
