10 Craziest Things That Have Been Made Into Movies

8. A Who Album - Quadrophenia

Concept albums are one of the most delightfully enjoyable ways to experience a band. Instead of being the conventional compilation of songs put into some suitable order, the record has been crafted with the specific intention to be listened from start to finish. Normally to convey a certain mood (think Sgt. Pepper), a brilliant subset is the rock opera - albums that through the songs tell a complete story. The Who, who even coined the term, were a big fan of this practice. Arguably their best foray into the area was Quadrophenia, eighty-one minutes of awesomeness that in 1979 made the leap from LP to film reel. Set at the height of the mods and rockers clash in the early sixties, the looks at disillusioned teenage Jimmy, who invests far too much in the mod sub-culture. Scored to songs from the album, the story is rather faithful, but with some great performances stands completely as its own beast. Tommy, The Who's first full-length rock opera had already been turned into a film, and nowadays we're accustomed to seeing entire back-catalogues inspire movies (think Mamma Mia and Across The Universe), but Quadrophenia work the best thanks to not devolving into a conventional musical.
