It might be stretching it just a little to label The Crow and fully-fledged horror offering, but the brutal murder of a loved-up couple and the clinical revenge which followed it are definitely tinged with elements of the horror genre. Plus, y'know, The Crow as a character looks like a total horror badass.

Where the 'returning from the grave' part is concerned here, audiences saw that literally play out in Alex Proyas' 1994 movie adaptation of James O'Barr's seminal graphic novel tale.

A year after the murder of lovebirds Eric Draven and Shelly Webster, Brandon Lee's Draven is brought back to life thanks to a crow chipping away on his headstone. From there, Eric embarks on the sort of glorious roaring rampage of revenge that would make Kill Bill's Bride proud.

Three sequels would follow, with Vincent Perez's Ashe Corven, Eric Mabius' Alex Corvis, and Ed Furlong's Jimmy Cuervo all having similarly crow-induced resurrections in The Crow: City of Angels, The Crow: Salvation, and The Crow: Wicked Prayer - and that's not even taking into account the more long-form story afforded to a Mark Dacascos-played Eric Draven in the 22-episode The Crow: Stairway to Heaven TV series.
