8. Bub - Day Of The Dead (1985)

The third zombie film from George Romero is set in an underground military facility in the Everglades. By this time, apart from the military and scientists that exist uneasily beside each other in the bunker, there are probably about 3 people alive on the whole planet. Dr Logan is a merry chap who is trying to figure out how to 'domesticate' zombies, and he has a prize specimen called 'Bub' who can flick through a Stephen King book, appreciate classical music and give a salute. Bub is Dr Logan's wee pet and he is very protective of him. He feeds him the bodies of dead soldiers as an incentive for good behaviour. When the military find out about Dr Logan's quirky activities they kill him. But loyal Bub will get his revenge on the instigator of the baddies - Captain Rhodes. Dr Logan was the comic relief in the film, which was desperately needed because everything else was tar black. He was very optimistic in the quest to solve the zombie pandemic, so optmistic that if he were your GP, he would probably harvest your organs for Bub's breakfast.
