7. Dr Giggles - Dr Giggles (1992)

I remember over 20 years ago, a fellow school student giving a compelling account of the misadventures of Dr Giggles, so I had to go and see the film for myself. Basically, the psychopath son of a murderous doctor has been locked in an institution for years. He is a doctor himself. He goes AWOL from the hospital and heads for the town where his father was caught and wreaks surgical style revenge upon its inhabitants. It is a familiar basic plot line that could have come out of any generic slasher from the era but the acting of Larry Drake as Dr Giggles is very amusing despite the weak script. Drake carries the film admirably - killing is his business, and business is good! More people trot onto the screen to be fodder for the killer than your average slasher. They are murdered in an entertaining medical based fashion - death by drills, blood pressure cuffs, injections, poisoning. A lot of the murders are shown off screen which is a blessing because the doctor is using some pretty nasty surgical instruments... Clichéd as heck when it comes to doctor jokes, it is nevertheless great fun to watch if slashers are your thing and if you fancy a bit of medical based mayhem. It is inventive and funny, with some suspense and nasty gore thrown into the melting pot. Guaranteed to make you titter.
