10 Creepiest Children In Horror Movies

5. The Grudge (2004)

Village Of The Damned 1995 John Carpenter
Kadokawa

As a ghost child, Toshio is naturally disconcerting to look at with his white skin and black hair and eyes. While his back story is still being discovered, he manages to build a lot of tension for upcoming jump scares. He is seen creeping around in the background and makes strange cat like noises until he suddenly appears screaming with his wide-open eyes up close to people.

Although never actually harming anyone, he is usually with his mother, so this makes his appearance act as an omen for her gruesome attacks. When you find out how he died, you feel sorry for him, but it means his actions make sense, such as his bond with his cat and the way he watches through the railings like he did when his father killed his mother.

The fact that nothing will stop him and the curse will never leave makes him especially scary. The film almost treats him and his mother like an incurable disease, which is a primal fear we all have. The audience is constantly hoping that Rachel will be able to find a ‘cure’, then we feel her hopelessness when even after she burns the house down it was still not enough.
