10 Creepiest Children In Horror Movies

4. The Exorcist (1973)

Village Of The Damned 1995 John Carpenter
Warner Bros

The story of twelve-year-old Regan begins with her innocently playing with a Ouija board. Ouija boards are something that everyone is very hesitant about as they are never quite sure if they really work. There is always that slight fear that they might be real and open the gates for demonic forces to attack us.

When Regan starts to become possessed there is such a change in her from happy girl to demonic horror she becomes, that it highlights our fear of the occult and the afterlife. Every aspect of Regan is frightening. Her voice, appearance, actions and wild unpredictable violent outbursts all make her unpleasant to be around.

Initially believing her to just be mentally ill, the doctors first only aim to use the exorcism for a placebo effect. Historically, it was believed that mental illness was caused by demon possession so the two are intrinsically linked in people’s minds. The stigma in society about mental illness means that Regan would have made audiences uneasy whether her condition was caused by a demon or not.
