10 Dangerous Movie Scenes You Won’t Believe Didn't Kill Anyone

3. The French Connection: Unplanned Car Chase

In 1969's Midnight Cowboy there is a particular scene where stars Dustin Hoffman and Jon Voight are walking down a busy New York street talking. Hoffman is nearly hit by a car and exclaims: 'Hey! I'm walkin' here!' This ad-lib happened because the scene is a 'stolen scene': they filmed in public with no permits and hidden cameras.

The French connection has a sequence very similar in that no section was taped off nor was anyone aware a movie was being filmed.

Unlike Midnight Cowboy's walking and talking scene, the sequence in question was a high speed chase.

There was a certain amount of control for the iconic chase scene (mostly slap dash though) but for the most part the film-makers relied on off duty cops and a siren for the lead card to keep the area clear.

There is one particular moment when the chasing car collides with another vehicle. This was not planned; it was a real car accident. Amazingly this one crash left no one hurt and was the only unplanned collision during filming.
