10 Dangerous Movie Worlds And How To Survive Them

2. The Mist

The MistHow To Survive: Have faith in the military and everything will be fine. The super-dark, super-ironic ending of The Mist has Thomas Jane's protagonist murder his son, his love interest and an elderly couple as it appears that the monsters are about to close in and kill them all. Jane ventures out into the mist after having forgotten to leave a bullet for himself, waiting for the monsters to tear him apart. After we hear a rumbling noise through the fog...a military convoy appears, and so if he had just waited another minute, four people's lives could have been saved. The film was interpreted by some as a political commentary, a criticism of liberal fatalism and a complete lack of faith in one's government. In this world, the government actually do get off their ass and do something eventually, so you needn't act as hastily as Jane's character did.
