10 DC Villains Who Need Their Own Standalone Film
9. Lex Luthor
Another supervillain film reportedly in the works involves a villain outside the realms of Batman for once, as Superman's arch-nemesis Lex Luthor is set to follow up the massive success of Joker. Once again, it is assumed that Superman will have little to no involvement and will instead focus on Luthor's meteoric rise to power, with some suggesting it may focus around him as the US President.
Hopefully, the film would be able to avoid a ham-fisted attempt at tackling modern politics as what made Joker so great was how timeless its themes were. However, the story of the son of a successful businessman who made a name for himself then rose to power as president of the United States does sound somewhat familiar.
Luthor has not had the best of times in his last few on-screen representations, Jesse Eisenberg's portrayal was met with much criticism, and the less said about the man who portrayed him in Superman Returns, the better. While Eisenberg certainly is a good enough actor to pull off a standalone film, a clean slate may be the best move for DC here, with perhaps the legendary Bryan Cranston proving that he is better than any other actor at playing bald men with a dark sense of morality.
