10 Deadly Directors Who Just Love To Kill Characters

1. Quentin Tarantino

Kill Bill Eight for eight. Count 'em off, eight feature films, all with significant character deaths. Quentin revels in the violence. I mentioned earlier that he owes everything to men like Sam Peckinpah but Quentin has never been shy about his influences. He wears them out in the open for everyone to see but takes homage to a level of high art. The trick with QT's films is that they're not violent for the sake of violence. There is always a method and a reason. His films exist in worlds showing us the worst of mankind all while allowing us a glimpse of how we could be better. If you're looking for percentage kills, Reservoir Dogs is your film. Only one character makes it out alive. If you're after sheer volume, take your pick between Inglourious Basterds, Django Unchained and the Kill Bill saga. If I'm not mistaken only Pitt, Novak and Waltz make it out of Basterds alive while Foxx and Washington are the sole survivors of Django. Come to think of it, The Bride is the only surviving character from Kill Bill (aside from her daughter). Someone check that for me. Either way, it's further evidence of QT's mastery of death. When you populate your films with bad people doing bad things the only possible outcome is violence. And when those bad people are routinely efficient killers, death will be next.

I'm married and live in New York with my wife and pets. I'm a writer and definitely not a comedian (just ask my wife). I've successfully linked my twitter, goodreads, facebook and google+ pages although the successful aspect of all that is up for debate. I also started my own blog on wordpress and have just finished my first novel, The Violent Winds. Now it's time to try and trick some unsuspecting fool into buying it.
