10 Deleted Scenes That Would Have Ruined Their Movies

8. Luke Witnesses The Opening Battle - Star Wars

With the trailer for Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens currently doing the rounds in cinemas and on the internet, the buzz for all things Star Wars-related is picking up once again in anticipation of J. J. Abrams' contribution to the franchise. The beginning of the film which started it all could have turned out significantly different to the one we all know and love had a few different decisions been made in the editing room. A scene in which Luke Skywalker observes the opening battle over Tattoine with a pair of binoculars was originally shot, following which the farm boy rushes off to see his friend Biggs. Had this been included in the final cut it would have completely detracted from Luke's initial starting point of ignorance and altered his character's arc as he comes to understand the nature of the powerful forces operating in the galaxy. Far better that he was introduced as the naive and innocent character we met in the final released version.
