So far there have been two Guardians of the Galaxy movies, and two major character deaths. Groot sacrificed himself in the first movie, while Yondu did the same in the sequel. The smart money says there will be another Guardian that dies in Volume 3, but who will it be?

While many fans are theorising Drax, as his story arc is now complete with the death of Thanos, and let’s be honest, even with his comedic value he is the most expendable of the team, this theory suggests that Rocket Raccoon will bite the dust in 2023.

James Gunn has previously spoken about how Volume 3 will complete the story arc Rocket began in the first Guardians movie, which sounds ominous enough, but there is no guarantee this will be some sacrifice. It could just be down to old age and natural causes.

Though he may be genetically enhanced, Rocket is still deep down physically a raccoon. Depending on who you ask, raccoons generally have a life expectancy of 2-5 years, and since 5 years passed in Endgame alone, Groot’s partner may be gradually coming towards the end of his days naturally. There aren’t many characters that get a peaceful death in the MCU, but there is every chance that Old Man Rocket could.
