8. Brett Ratner

After the success of X-2, the greatest superhero movie ever made at the time, it was announced that the director of the first two highly successful films, Bryan Singer, was off to make Superman Returns instead of X-Men 3 (bad choice). Someone thought it would be a good idea to give one of the most precious franchises at the time to the director of Rush Hour 1 and 2. Incidentally speaking, Mr. Ratner was originally offered the chance to direct the first X-Men and Superman Returns - imagine what state superhero movies would be in if that had happened. So when you think about it logically, we have Brett Ratner to thank for not taking that X-Men gig and in turn, not ruining comic book movie revival. What I am getting at is this: Thanks Brett for The Avengers. Joking aside, the film world held its breath as they waited for X-Men: The Last Stand, disappointingly exhaling all at once when it came out to poor reception from fans and critics alike. Ratner is single handily responsible for destroying a popular movie franchise, a franchise that has since had to be built again from the ground up, starting with a prequel. The last guy who did that was Joel Schumacher with Batman and Robin not great company to be in.
