10 Directors Who Were PISSED OFF At Film Premieres

3. Woody Allen Hated The Movie, Skipped The Premiere Entirely - Manhattan

Manhattan is largely accepted to be one of Woody Allen's best films, a deliciously witty, iconic romantic comedy albeit one which Allen himself was totally unhappy with.

Allen disliked the end result enough that he begged studio United Artists not to release it at all, even offering to waive his directing fee for his next project.

He later said, "I just thought to myself, 'At this point in my life, if this is the best I can do, they shouldn't give me money to make movies.'"

The studio ultimately refused Allen's offer, of course, and Manhattan was released much to the director's chagrin.

When it came to the film's premiere - which was held in Manhattan's snazzy Ziegfeld Theater, naturally - Allen was irritated enough to skip out on festivities entirely, flying to Paris to avoid the press circus.

Granted, Allen is a famously reclusive figure at the best of times, but rather than subject himself to talking endlessly about a film he didn't even like, he jetted off to the safety of Europe instead.
