10 Disappointing Comic Book Movies That Deserve A Second Chance

At a time when people just wanted a faithful Hulk adaptation featuring the Green Goliath smashing things, Ang Lee decided to give us a thinking man’s superhero movie instead. Hulk wasn’t poorly made, but it was so greatly against what fans were expecting that most just dismissed it out of hand.

Now, over a decade later, with so many of these blockbuster superhero movies that focus on action more than anything, Hulk offers a welcome change of pace. If approached as a psychological drama that happens to star a superhero instead of the other way around, it becomes a pretty interesting film.

Likewise, a highlight of the film is its visual style. There’s a clear effort to bring a comic book to life and while the transitions didn’t necessarily work, it was an inspired idea. This represents the type of creativity we don't see in Marvel's style and presents a welcome change to what we're now used to, but at the time, this was impossible to realize.

At a time when fans waned something simple, Hulk didn't stand a chance. Ironically, if released now, it’s conceivable that Hulk would have been received a lot more warmly for going against the current trends and spinning a new take on the comic book movie.
