10 Disappointing Movies That Ruined Summer 2013

7. The Hangover Part III

The-Hangover-3-headerDid It Succeed?: At $350.7 million worldwide, it posts the lowest grosses of the trilogy, but in tripling its budget three-fold, is still a huge financial success. Critics weren't so fond, giving it 19%. Why It's Disappointing: After the cynical excess of The Hangover Part II, perhaps we shouldn't have been expecting much from the third (and purportedly final) entry into the franchise. However, director Todd Phillips had promised that the film wouldn't follow the regular format for the series to date, and in fact, there are pretty much no hangovers throughout the film. While the film's incredibly harsh tone and dark subject matter should have been a way to revitalise the series, Phillips still sticks to the same placeholder plot threads, and the comedy is generally just mean-spirited without actually being funny. A hilarious mid-credits tease of another zany adventure does raise an uproarious laugh, but it's hardly enough to save the film, or keep us interested in the series' continuation.
