10 Doomed Movie Characters Saved By Reshoots

3. Benny - Leatherface: The Texas Chainsaw Massacre III

Production on the third Texas Chainsaw Massacre movie was an absolute nightmare, with the shoot running over-schedule and over-budget, enough that director Jeff Burr was fired a mere week into filming.

Hilariously, though, when the producers couldn't find anyone else to replace him, he was re-hired for the remainder of the shoot.

Originally, survivalist character Benny (Ken Foree) was killed from wounds sustained by Leatherface's (R. A. Mihailoff) chainsaw, but New Line Cinema ultimately found the character likeable enough that they decided to shoot a new ending in which he survived.

And so, the film's editor Michael N. Knue oversaw the reshoot, which was conducted without director Burr's knowledge, such that Burr didn't find out until he saw the film at the premiere and witnessed Benny's unexpected survival for himself.

It's pretty awkward all things considered. Given that Benny's original fatal attack is still kept in the movie largely unedited, it's jarring to see him make a sudden return at the end, as great a character as he is.
