8. Eric - Evil Dead

Sam Raimi's original The Evil Dead is vastly superior to the recent remake in just about every way, specifically the means by which the demonic force is unleashed upon the log cabin in the first place; it is by way of a tape recorder that reads a number of incantations aloud, and this actually kinda makes sense. In the recent remake, however, one character named Eric finds the Book of the Dead, and after leafing through it, notices a bunch of scrawled messages warning the reader not to say the incantations aloud. So what does Eric do? Of course, he reads them aloud, and unleashes the demonic force that ends up killing all but one of the cabin's residents. The whole "dumb kid touching something he shouldn't" horror trope is so exhausted by now that this one seemed particularly sigh-worthy.
