10 Dumb Movie Trailers That Ruined The Film's Ending

5. Warrior (2011)

There was a certain level of excitement surrounding Tom Hardy in 2011, with the British actor having stacked up a number of best newcomer awards and delivering promising performances in Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy and Inception. Those of us who saw Warrior as a result of the buzz were rewarded with a thoroughly engrossing sports drama, though, for those who happened to see the trailer first, the experience was somewhat predictable.

With the exception of one moment of maddening stupidity, Warrior's trailer is as gripping as the film itself. It tells us everything we need to know - Hardy is an introverted ex-marine who finds new fame after stories of his life-saving heroics surface in the media, while his brother (Joel Edgerton) is a retired fighter turned high school physics teacher who is behind on his mortgage. Both are in need of some cash, and fast. So far, so good.

We then learn that both men will compete in Sparta, an MMA knock-out competition in which the top middleweights in the world battle it out for a cash prize of $5 million. With this, the stage was set nicely, though the trailer inexplicably goes on to completely ruin the tournament set-up that the film works around by revealing that the two brothers reach the final and face one another.

While you could argue that the outcome was predictable anyway, being armed with the knowledge of who contests the final makes the film play like a real MMA event - too much build-up and not enough end product.

Phil still hasn't got round to writing a profile yet, as he has an unhealthy amount of box sets on the go.
