2. Everyone Who Stays In The Ball Room - The Poseidon Adventure
The Poseidon Adventure is one of the greatest disaster movies of all time, but that doesn't mean its characters all behave logically.
After luxury liner the SS Poseidon is capsized, those inside must decide how to escape, with Reverend Frank Scott (Gene Hackman) suggesting to a ball room full of survivors that an exit can be found by the ship's hull.
Unfortunately almost everyone in the ball room decides to listen to the ship's purser instead, staying put and waiting for rescue.
And so, moments after Scott and a small band of survivors escape the ball room, a series of explosions flood the room, causing a mad rush as everyone tries to belatedly follow Scott.
In their panic, however, they knock over the Christmas tree which would've provided them a safe exit, sealing their fate and prompting a resigned Scott to leave the room, unable to help them. Brutal.
