10 Dumbest Decisions Made By Star Wars Characters
3. Palpatine Broadcasts His Return To The Entire Galaxy - The Rise Of Skywalker (2019)
Having spent three decades working in the shadows, moving players and puppets around the galaxy and cultivating the kind of anonymity Ahch-To's Luke Skywalker could only dream of, a resurrected Palpatine blows it all before the opening credits of the final film in the Star Wars Saga, The Rise Of Skywalker.
Palpatine has assembled an armada of Star Destroyers on Sith planet Exegol and is almost ready to mobilise and strike, when he decides this is the time to broadcast himself to every corner of the galaxy. Like sounding a horn before a navy seals op.
Sure, he wanted to attract Kylo Ren and, by extension, Rey, to Exegol - but he could quite easily have done this under the radar, either with a direct message to them (if he has the power to broadcast through the galaxy, he can sure as heck fire off a quick text) or the use of third parties - bounty hunters or messengers, or even, perhaps, one of his thousands of Sith Eternal.
To let his ego run away with him and so brazenly announce his return was the final nail in Palpatine's coffin, as this forewarned literally everyone of his coming and, most importantly, reminded the galaxy of the fear they felt during the reign of the Empire. Would any ships have come to the Resistance's aid in The Rise Of Skywalker if they had not known they were stopping the Emperor? The finale of The Last Jedi says not.
