1. When She Forgot She Was A Witch - The Philosopher's Stone
Even the best witches and wizards get flustered from time to time. Though Hermione was almost always logical and focused, she suffered a significant lapse in concentration when confronted with the Devil’s Snare.
As Harry and Ron struggled to fend off this strangulating plant, Hermione recalled how Devil’s Snare likes ‘the dark and the damp’, which in turn prompted Harry to tell her to light a fire. Rather than acting upon these words, however, Hermione moaned that she couldn’t start a fire because there was ‘no wood'.
Due to Ron’s incredulity at such a comment, she then recovered herself and managed to save her two friends from the clutches of the Devil’s Snare by firing blue flames at it.
As amusing as this moment was, it goes to show that even the brightest Hogwarts students don’t always act rationally in the face of danger.
