Hermione’s talent as a potioneer was highly evident in The Chamber of Secrets. Despite only being in her second year, she managed to successfully brew the Polyjuice Potion almost entirely on her own.

Unfortunately, she messed up one of the most basic elements of the potion – adding the hairs. After being forced to pair up with Millicent Bulstrode at the Duelling Club, Hermione used the opportunity to take several hairs off the hem of Millicent’s robes.

Whilst this was a great example of Hermione’s quick thinking, it was also foolish of her to add the hairs without being sure where they came from. As a result, Hermione ended up in the hospital wing in order to fix her cat-like appearance.

Given how easily Harry and Ron were able to obtain hairs from Crabbe and Goyle, Hermione could have easily avoided such a mistake.
