10 Dumbest Horror Movie Decisions (That People Survived)

8. Not Using The Hacksaw To Grab The Phone - Saw

While nobody would act 100% rationally if they awoke chained up in a grotty bathroom, it's still safe to say that Dr. Gordon's (Cary Elwes) decision to cut off his own foot in Saw wasn't thought through particularly well.

After hearing a phone call of his wife and daughter being tortured by Jigsaw's (Tobin Bell) pawn Zep (Michael Emerson), a panicked Gordon throws the phone out of reach and makes only a quick, half-assed attempt to grab it again.

Seeing no other option, he hastily resorts to chopping off his own foot to escape Jigsaw's lair, crawling off into the night and not being seen again for the rest of the movie or the five sequels that follow.

But Gordon wasn't that far away from the phone, and clearly could've either used the hacksaw or his shirt to bring the phone closer to him, in turn allowing him to call his wife and learn that, in fact, she fended Zep off.

Instead, he risked bleeding to death to help his family, despite a foot-less man probably not being much help against a home invader anyway.

Fans then spent almost the rest of the main series speculating on Gordon's fate until the seventh film, Saw 3D, where Gordon finally made his illustrious return, ultimately being revealed as Jigsaw's new apprentice.
