10 Dumbest Moments In The Halloween Series
1. The First Half Of The Movie (Rob Zombie's Halloween)
Rob Zombie's approach to remaking Halloween involved attaching an unnecessary prologue to the story before rehashing John Carpenter's original almost scene for scene, and shooting the whole thing through a cloud of trailer park smog.
It's the prologue part that's the real problem here. Zombie added a backstory involving a troubled childhood, school bullying and mother issues to Michael Myers's CV, making him more a product of his environment than a mysterious evil force.
Although the movie touched on the nature-nurture debate to add substance to Michael's murderous ways, attempting to explain why he's that way defeated the purpose. Zombie provided a more mundane explanation than druidic curses, but the result was the same: the Haddonfield butcher wasn't as scary as before.
Michael Myers is best portrayed as an insidious force of nature, and the reason he suddenly became evil incarnate at the age of six is best left up to the viewer's imagination. As soon as you throw ancient druidic curses, and in this case a rocky upbringing, into the mix, he becomes something far less interesting.
