10 Dumbest Movie Plot Twists Of 2020

3. Adam Is The Secret Villain - The Craft: Legacy

Fantasy Island
Sony Pictures Releasing

The Craft: Legacy was basically what everyone expected: a cynical "soft reboot" that attempted to rehash a brand name for a new generation while still appealing to fans of the original.

As both a sequel and a reboot the film was a failure, not least because of its ridiculous third act villain reveal.

Early in the film we're introduced to protagonist Lily's (Cailee Spaeny) new stepfather Adam (David Duchovny), a man who may as well have "Bad Guy" stamped on his forehead from the moment we meet him.

To the surprise of not a single living soul, Adam turns out to be a pagan zealot who wants to steal Lily's magical powers for his own nefarious ends.

Between Duchovny's total miscasting in the role and the utter predictability of the primary male character being the villain in a feminist horror film, audiences were more likely to roll their eyes than gasp at the big reveal.
