10 Early Short Films From Modern Day Great Directors

3. Geometria - Guillermo Del Toro

geomatria Guillermo Del Toro is one of my most beloved directors. While not only does he get his name every where and is known as one of the most infectiously spirited filmmakers around, but he is also one of the most skilled directors working today. Films like Pan's Labyrinth show the Del Toro knows and understands how to make a masterpiece but most of the time, he loves getting his hands dirty with geek fare and horror films that are all impeccably made. Del Toro has a string of short films out there but allow me to present to you Geometria. Loosely based on a short story by Fredric Brown, it shows a boy calling upon demons to bring back his father and help him pass his Geometry exam. The inspirations are not hard to see in the film, with a clear love of gory colour saturated horror on display. While the film is genuinely creepy, what makes it work is the comedy of the piece. Oh, and it features a pastiche on The Exorcism. So there is that. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K-kXjzssBaI
