10 Essential Movie Scenes Only Available In Extended Cuts
5. Dani Confronts Christian - Midsommar (Director's Cut)
Midsommar is already a fairly long film, to begin with, so when Ari Aster announced that there was a director's cut that ran thirty minutes longer, many wondered what on earth could be added.
The biggest inclusion is a rare nighttime scene in which we see another of the cult's bizarre and cruel traditions at play, but the most notable piece of cut content is an argument between Dani and Christian, in which Dani actually shows that she has a backbone and isn't afraid to fight back when needed.
This is in contrast to the theatrical cut where Dani seems to take Christian's gaslighting, emotional manipulation, and lack of affection for her as a given and does little to speak out against it.
In the cut scene, Dani actually calls him out over his recent behaviour, to which Christian immediately goes on the defensive and tries to turn things around on Dani once again, effectively gaslighting her and beginning his cycle of douchebaggery anew.
This scene's inclusion shows that Dani has some fight left in her and goes that little bit further in justifying her actions at the film's climax.
Well, as much as you can justify burning your partner alive...
