10 Even More Insane Over The Top Horror Movies

5. Dreamcatcher

Simply put, Lawrence Kasdan's adaptation of Dreamcatcher is bewildering from beginning to end. And yet, the Stephen King adaption seemed like it had potential. With its stacked cast and the fact it was helmed by the co-writer of, amongst other things, The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi, Dreamcatcher looked like a classic in the making. Sadly, it's far too goofy to be taken seriously, even by King purists.

Dreamcatcher centres around four psychic friends who unite to stop an alien invasion. Although it's a promising premise, the fantasy flick is bogged down by WTF subplots, first-draft dialogue, and appalling special effects. After watching a butt alien latch onto a character's penis, it's hard to believe this isn't a comedy (at least, not deliberately).

Anytime Dreamcatcher starts to feel like a genuine thriller, it'll throw in something ridiculous like Damian Lewis' laughable Cockney accent or Morgan Freeman's superglued eyebrows. Also, hearing Freeman's character casually referring to the extraterrestrials as "sh*t weasels", like that's their actual name, never stops being funny.

The craziness here never lets up, as in the final scene, a main character is revealed to have been an alien all along, without any build-up or explanation before Dreamcatcher abruptly cuts to credits.
