10 Exact Moments Directors Knew They Wouldn't Make Movie Sequels
4. Ridley Scott Was Too Busy To Come Back To Blade Runner
Blade Runner will always be seen as one of Ridley Scott's finest films. Although not a commercial success when first released in 1982, it has since grown in reputation, and is seen as a sci-fi classic.
For many years there was talk of a Blade Runner sequel, but any potential film was held back due to film rights, and other Hollywood legal issues. When, in 2011, news finally came that a Blade Runner sequel was going into production, Ridley Scott signed up as the director.
Unfortunately, in 2015, Scott made it clear that his commitment to another sci-fi franchise would prevent him directing the next Blade Runner film. As he was heavily involved in the filming of Alien Covenant at the time, he felt unable to complete both films in time for their respective releases. In the end directing duties were given to Denis Villeneuve, although Scott would stay on as an executive producer for the film.
