10 Exact Moments Directors Knew They Wouldn't Make Movie Sequels
3. Harry Potter's Edits Were Too Much For Chris Columbus
Chris Columbus will always be credited with bringing Harry Potter to our screens. The director of the first two films in the franchise (The Philosopher's Stone and The Chamber Of Secrets), he laid down much visual imagery that the subsequent titles in the series adopted and built on.
It was Columbus who discovered Daniel Radcliffe as the perfect fit for JK Rowling's protagonist, helping to make household names of Emma Watson and Rupert Grint in the process. With his background in filming lighthearted, family friendly comedies, Columbus was the perfect man to get the franchise started.
When the third film went into planning, though, Columbus decided that he had had enough of being behind the camera. The lengthy process of filming and editing had left him physically exhausted, and he was desperate to spend more time with his family. He would stay on as a producer for the next film, The Prisoner Of Azkaban, but would ultimately relinquish any involvement in the franchise after that.
