10 Exact Moments We Knew Movie Characters Were Doomed To Die

10. Graeme Miller Wants You To Know He Has A Family - Alien Vs. Predator

To start this list off with a bit of a daft one, think of this as a stand in for the entire 'if they show a family photo, they're doomed to die' horror trope. Very early on in Alien vs. Predator - a movie that is simultaneously better than it has any right to be, but also far worse than it should have been - Ewan Bremner's character Dr. Miller gets a couple of moments to show off his one character trait: the fact he has a family.

Showing pictures of his kids back home to the audience and informing the other characters that he's on the trip "for them", it's at this point you know the dude is absolutely never, ever seeing them again. This is a writing cliche that has signalled the death of many a character, but it's particularly egregious here.

He wins our sympathy simply because he cares about his family and he's played by Ewan Bremner, and it's all in service of getting us to feel a bit sad when he gets obliterated later in the story.
