With old buildings comes ghosts, and Hogwarts is full of them. In the Philosopher's Stone movie, audiences witnessed the ghosts of the school within the Great Hall and corridors, fighting on horses, smashing through windows and conversing with the students.

The two famous named ghosts within the film franchise are 'Nearly Headless Nick' and of course 'Moaning Myrtle', the crying schoolgirl who resides in the girl's bathroom with an unhealthy crush on Harry Potter himself.

There is however one ghost that was kept out of the films, a poltergeist named Peeves. In the books, Peeves causes chaos amongst the castle, turning invisible at his own will to sneak and destroy things. He has lived as an undead entity since the school first opened, coming with the building and nobody has been able to rid of him since. Some staff within the school believe that he was formed from the mischievous nature of the students.

Peeves finds joy in annoying everyone, especially caretakers such as Argus Filch. He is one of the only ghosts to have a complete physical form, taking the appearance of a look alike jester.
