10 Failed Star Wars Movies (And Why They Didn't Happen)

4. The Boba Fett Solo Movie

The Movie

A Boba Fett solo movie was announced in 2013, as part of Disney's grand plan for the Star Wars franchise.

Reportedly, it was set to take place either between A New Hope and The Empire Strikes Back, or The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi, and would've featured Fett alongside some of the other bounty hunters we saw in Episode V.

Story aside, the most exciting thing about this project was the talent involved, with Chronicle helmer Josh Trank initially being hired to direct, before 3:10 To Yuma and Logan mastermind James Mangold took the reigns in 2018.

Why It Didn't Happen

As mentioned, the Boba Fett movie suffered the same fate as its Obi-Wan counterpart, with Solo's box-office disappointment prompting Disney and Lucasfilm to reevaluate their movie strategy.

Disney+ became the focus instead, and an entirely new Boba story was developed for the small screen, with the character last being seen in the seven-part series The Book of Boba Fett earlier this year.

Danny has been with WhatCulture for almost nine years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. He has been writing and video editing for 10+ years, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers and uploading them to YouTube (they're admittedly a bit rusty by today's standards). If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order or to tell you about the making of 1988's Remembrance of the Daleks, Danny is the person to ask.
