5. The Orchid Thief (Adaptation.)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0HtZ2M4e_AM Explaining what exactly The Orchid Thief is in a couple of paragraphs is probably impossible, a point that will probably makes far more sense when you realise that Adaptation. was written by Charlie Kaufman, who excels in breaking people's brains. Plainly put, though, The Orchid Thief is the non-fiction book that Nicolas Cage's screenwriter character is trying to adapt throughout the course of the movie, and one which serves to drive him kind of insane. The really confusing/mind-blowing thing, though (there's always one of those in a Kaufman film), is that The Orchid Thief is actually a real book, and Adaptation. is actually an adaptation of that book. But it's an adaptation rendered through a plot about actually adapting The Orchid Thief, all about how hard it is to adapt The Orchid Thief, whilst adapting it at the same time. Which means... what does that mean? Anyway, we'd like to see the full movie, just to see how it turned out.
