10 Famous Actors That Debuted In Horror Movies
5. Kevin Costner - Shadows Run Black (1984)
Even if an actor has the tiniest, blink-and-you'll-miss-it part in a film, once that actor reaches greater heights, you know that angle will be exploited to the hilt in marketing. 1984's exploitation-slasher Shadows Run Black is a classic example of this when it finally saw a release in 1986.
The movie follows the police and a group of would-be victims as they try to deduce who a serial killer known as "The Black Angel" might be.
Shadows Run Black is pretty standard slasher-movie sleaze and was considered cliched and dull by the time it was released. Originally filmed in 1981, had the film found distribution at the time, it would have been the screen debut of Kevin Costner.
By the time the movie was dumped on video in 1986 Costner had gained recognition with sizable roles in bigger movies. This meant his name was placed over the title in a re-edit and on the box art. The art chosen featured a depiction of Costner spying on a scantily-clad woman.
The glaring problem with all of this is Shadows Run Black is not a Kevin Costner movie. He features in the film for little more that two minutes as an overly-menacing thug boyfriend briefly suspected as the killer. Costner is not on his A-game here, and no doubt didn't appreciate this sleazy flick being sold as a headlining gig.
