10 Famous Actors That Debuted In Horror Movies
4. Jennifer Jason-Leigh - Eyes Of A Stranger (1981)
Being the daughter the late actor Vic Morrow and his screenwriter wife, it seemed almost destined that Jennifer Jason Leigh would pursue a career in entertainment herself. It seemed to happen quickly, with charismatic turns in Fast Times At Ridgemont High, Flesh + Blood and The Hitcher.
However, a movie that is often forgotten in this slew of eighties classics is Leigh screen debut in the Warner Bros. produced slasher movie Eyes of a Stranger. This 1981 thriller stars Leigh as the deaf-mute sister of Love Boat star Lauren Tewes who gets too suspicious of her serial killer neighbor and becomes the next target.
Eyes of a Stranger was seemingly lost in the sea of similar films that surrounded it at the time, and it is quite a shame. The movie deserves to be seen for Leigh's performance alone, as she delivers a stellar turn playing the disabled youth Tracy. Here Leigh has to convey a myriad of emotions all whilst playing a character that cannot see, hear or speak, but ultimately has to fight back.
Aside from Leigh, the movie is also worth your time as it is a picture that dares to move slowly and take its time with story and character development, and yet still surprise us with some brutal gore.
Effects legend Tom Savini is on top form as always, as throats are slashed and heads roll.
