10 Famous Actors Who Are Skipping Movies In 2019

8. Paul Dano

Paul Dano is one of those faces that everybody recognises, but nobody remembers to give any credit to. With brilliant turns in Looper, There Will Be Blood and Swiss Army Man - to name a few - under his belt, he's a reliable performer and it's always great to see him pop up onscreen.

And just like Chris Evans, Jonah Hill and Jason Bateman have recently done themselves, Dano has turned his hand to directing, eschewing any 2019 starring roles altogether.

Wildlife, his feature debut (which opens this week), has received rave reviews from critics. Given Dano's lack of acting work on his upcoming slate, it wouldn't be surprising to see him take a break from on-camera work, and step behind-the-scenes for a few more movies.

He's definitely not giving up acting altogether though; in just a month's time, he'll star in Escape at Dannemora, a Showtime mini-series based on the Clinton Correctional Facility escape of 2015. Lovely stuff.

Danny has been with WhatCulture for over ten years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. In 2022, he took charge of WhoCulture and has grown it into the biggest Doctor Who channel on YouTube, and one of the biggest Doctor Who communities on the web full-stop. He has been writing and video editing since his early teens, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers, off the back of a burning obsession with the Matt Smith era of the show. Like many his age, he first got into Doctor Who with the 2005 revival, but has since gone back and fallen in love with the classic years too. If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order, or to give you a random factoid about the making of Gridlock, Danny is the person to ask!
