2. The Entire Crew of the Nostromo Had Different Names - Alien
The names that the writers opted to use in sci-fi masterpiece
Alien are brilliant. Simple, memorable and effective in summing up the personalities of the characters, they work because we're only ever told their first names (aside from Ripley, that is). This was ultimately done because the writers wanted the filmmakers to be able to cast either male or females in any of the roles - the original selection of names we got, though, were invariably awful. So although we ended up with Dallas, Kane, Parker, Brett, Ash, Lambert and Ripley, we very nearly came close to Captain Chaz Standard, Executive Officer Martin Roby, Navigator Dell Broussard, Communications Officer Sandy Melkonis, Mining Engineer Cleave Hunter, and Engine Tech Jay Faust. Do these names sound like they're straight out of another movie entirely, or what?
Cleave Hunter? I don't know who thought that was okay.
