1. Red Is Incredibly Bad At Working Out Distances - The Shawshank Redemption
The greatest moment in
The Shawshank Redemption is arguably the one where our hero, wrongly convicted prisoner Andy Dufresne, makes his escape from prison, crawling his way through a sewage pipe filled with a river of faeces, culminating with the iconic shot of him standing in the rain saying goodbye to his old life. This is all narrated, of course, by one Morgan Freeman (as Red), whose dulcet tones imbue the moment with his trademark integrity and intelligence. Well, maybe it's
just integrity to be totally honest, because if you pay attention to what Red is actually saying, you'll realise that his brain has presumably rotted away in prison. When he describes how far Andy must've crawled to escape, he says: "Five hundred yards... that's the length of five football fields, just shy of half a mile." But a mile is 1760 yards. And 500 yards isn't even a third of that distance. I guess he was too excited to do the math properly or something?
